We see it every day… technology is present at every single moment and aspect in our lives. And it’s not surprising to know that this world evolves quickly. It does it at such an accelerated pace that it seems like there’s a new invention every single day… or every couple of hours.
This article is my honest opinion, and it also opens up the space for discussion. How is technology affecting our lives? Is it a good or bad effect? In case it was bad, is there something we can do to fight it back?
Is Technology Stealing Our Human Essence?
One of the most worrying aspects about the latest advances in technology is that it seems to be stealing our human essence. It’s not doing it as a default behavior, but because we allow it.
For example, current communication is heavily affected by smartphones. People don’t talk as often as they used to be, and by this we mean in the traditional way… in person! We are losing touch with each another, and this is something which should worry us quite a lot.
We are losing social touch and that’s not good. Because this way we tend to fall in depression. When we put our life too attached to the cyber dimension and our smartphones, along with other devices, then we become strange to real-life social interaction, and this can make us fall in depression.
You should not be surprised to know that one of the main causes of depression is social isolation, which has been on the rise since social media networks and smartphones appeared. These products and devices are not bad by default, but the way we use them and how much we attach our lives to them is what is ruining us.
What’s Going on With Physicality?
One of the most notorious negative effects of this over-independence on technology is the loss of physicality. Some may think it’s not important at all, but it’s more important than we realize.
We need to move and we need to interact with our ambient. We need to move our hands and put them to work along with our brain. These are things that we are slowly passing away, because technology makes things so easy that many people barely want to do any kind of physical effort.
What Can Get From This?
We are not, under any mean, supporting a technology-less life. That’d be highly idiotic. However, what we encourage is a good balance between both things: physicality and technology. It’s good that you use all of those devices, but it’d be awesome if you could give yourself to practice some physicality and interact more with other people.
That’s all. We wanted to discuss this, because with the latest advances in technology we see how our society gets benefited but also obtains negative effects on other aspects, so we considered it was a good idea to release an article of this kind. We hope you enjoyed it.
